An alternating storyline in the novel concerns a teenage Joan, then a freshman in high school, on vacation with her family in Maine. There she secretly befriends a boy named Richard who lives in her hometown. Both Joan and Richard hate Richard's cousin, Duane, and taunt each other about what is would be like to get rid of him. Will they follow through with a plan to kill him? The Kind Worth Saving is a Hitchcockian puzzle, well worth a read. The book also features characters from Swanson's second novel, The Kind Worth Killing, but reading that first isn't necessary.

Stone Cold Fox by Rachel Koller Croft

Bea has her sights set on becoming Mrs. Collin Case. Collin is the only son in a very wealthy New York family, and marrying him will make Bea comfortable for the rest of her life. Bea knows she has an uphill battle to get the Case family to accept her, since she is not from the same social circle. In fact, Bea has hidden her unsavory past--growing up with a mother who deceived men and used Bea as a pawn in her games. The biggest obstacle to Bea landing Collin turns out to be Collin's female best friend, Gale. Gale makes it clear to Bea that she doesn't trust her. Soon, it's a battle between Bea and Gale to see who will triumph in their goal. Stone Cold Fox is a wicked, fast-paced read that would make a great movie. Also a great read-alike for The Last Mrs. Parrish and the novels of Julie Clark.
