Tally Stick by Carl Nixon

In 1978, the Chamberlain family of six go missing on the South Island of New Zealand after their car crashes during a torrential rainstorm. Then in 2010, the bones of the oldest son, Maurice, are found, but the authorities say he didn't die until 1982. Where was Maurice for the four years after he was last seen? What happened to the other family members? Tally Stick tells the story of the family after the accident and of the mother's sister, Suzanne, in England, who searches for the truth. Heartbreaking and concise, it's a tale that will stay with me for a long time. Not to be missed for those who enjoy Tana French, Belinda Bauer, and What Could Be Saved by Liese O'Halloran Schwarz.
